The Americas
The American continent, from Canada to the tip of South America, was isolated from the rest of earth's continents for more that 100 million years. This isolation created flora and fauna unique to the Americas. Human migration from Eurasia didn't take place until the peak of the last glacial maximum, about 25,000 years ago, leading to equally unique human cultures. Only recently have we begun to rediscover some of the knowledge of the indigenous people who lived here. In many ways they represent the pinnacle of human achievement, based on their ability to not only survive but thrive in the diverse and challenging environments of the Americas.
Special note: I have included New York City in this gallery. Although New Yorkers are not indigenous peoples, per se, New York has always been the quintessential "melting pot" of the United States. In one day, New York can show you all of the wonderful cultures that make up our great modern country. You gotta "Love New York"!
