Travel
I approach travel photography very differently from landscape photography. Travel offers an opportunity to learn about different people and cultures. When I prepare for travel, in addition to looking at other photographers' work, I learn as much as I can about the rich histories of the places I'll be visiting. Most travel destinations have been widely photographed, probably OVER photographed! This can make it a challenge to find a fresh perspective. But, if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, travel destinations can be full of wonderful surprises (see "Crescent Moon Sunset" and "A Beach Holiday" in Field Notes).
I have divided my travel destinations into three categories: The Americas, Europe, and Other Exotic Locales. In The Americas gallery I have included everything on the American continents, excluding the United States west of the Rocky Mountains (see Landscapes galleries).
